ImageRead about the recent Lasallian happenings in the Asia-Pacific region in following report by Bro. David Hawke FSC, Regional Co-ordinator, PARC.

1. Lunar New Year of the Pig
Greetings. We are celebrating Lunar New Year in Singapore, welcoming in the Year of the Pig. Red envelopes were left at each Brother’s door in keeping with local custom. The local Brothers are away celebrating reunion dinners with their families. The celebrations continue over the next couple of weeks.

2. GUATEMALA PRE-GENERAL CHAPTER MEETING
Jorge and Vincent Keating attended the meeting last week on behalf of PARC. Unfortunately, Dodo did not receive his visa papers in time to attend. Vincent Keating reports: “In all there were 46 Brothers from RELAL, USA-T with three representatives from APLEP and two from PARC.
Topics dealt with during the two days were MISSION, ASSOCIATION, BEING BROTHERS TODAY, RESTRUCTURING.
Each group was asked to share, in two or three points, propositions or commitments. Clarification was invited and then there was general discussion. We then focused on what unites us and determined some inter-regional agreements or themes. The agreed common reflection was expressed thus:
1. We believe there is a need for new structures for animation of the Institute.
2. There must be an emphasis on the centrality of the Vow of Association for our consecrated life as religious Brothers.
3. In our education mission, we need to continue to respond to the new forms of poverty and continue educating in social justice and evangelizing in the Faith.
4. There is a need for clarification in the vocabulary and concept of association.
5. We believe we need a new revision of the Rule.
6. We accept the Mission Assembly Document (MEL).
7. We believe the revitalization of our community life needs to be a topic for consideration at this Chapter.

3. FIRST AFFILIATION IN PAKISTAN
On Saturday 300 people gathered in the Christian village of Khushpur for the Affiliation ceremony for Mr. Thomas Sarup in honour of his 32 years as a teacher at the Catechetical Training Centre. It happened, also to be his 75th birthday. A real cross section of the Lasallian Family was present; Brothers, CTC staff and students, Literacy Centre students, aspirants, school staffs, priests of the parish, hostel students and staff and the family of Mr. Thomas and village people. The Affiliation was fittingly celebrated in the evening, in an outdoor setting at the Benilde Literacy Centre which was beautifully decorated for the event. The organization was superb, the Khushpur community (Chrisite, Yohan and Waseem) excelling themselves. The programme consisted of prayer, dance, song, tableaus, poetry and speeches to pay tribute to Mr. Thomas. The Letter of Affiliation was read by Br Colin, Delegate/President and translated into Urdu. It was indeed a great Lasallian celebration.  Congratulations Pakistan
