Landmark celebrations for La Salle and St. Xavier’s Institution, Penang Print E-mail

ImageAs the La Salle Brothers celebrate their 160th anniversary in Asia in 2012, LaSallians in the Land will also share the joy in celebrating the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the 1st Lasallian school in the country – the St. Xaver’s Institution, Penang (year of establishment: 1852).

The Anniversary Celebrations Committee has planned for year-long celebrations beginning January next year with the key events to take place on the 31st March (Dinner in honour of the Brothers) and 15th December (SXI Homecoming Dinner).

ImageIn this connection, Brother Charles Levin (a past Brother principal of SXI from 1967-1979) initiated the Commemorative Wall project to showcase the work and achievements of the La Salle Brothers; and he is working hard on it to ensure its completion before March next year. This is a piece of heritage work that will be invaluable to posterity.

This project must necessary cost money. In the following letter which he sends to us, he appeals for corporate sponsorship (in full or in part) and financial contributions from the  past students of La Salle Schools, La Salle Associates and well-wishers.

A Plea for Fund from Bro. Charles Levin FSC
2012 marks 160 years of the Lasallian Brothers’ presence in Malaysia. In March, over fifty Brothers from various countries will come together at SXI to celebrate the Lasallian Brother’s first school in Malaysia, i.e. St Xavier’s Institution. To commemorate this occasion, we would like to dedicate a memorial wall to showcase the achievements of the Lasallian Brothers.

The cost for this commemorative wall is estimated to be RM50,000. I would like to make a personal appeal to all you former Xaverians and Lasallians to help contribute to this historical project. Hopefully, it will become one of the landmark symbols in St. Xavier’s Institution. This will be the final project among a series of projects that we have recently undertaken to showcase the history of the school and the Lasallian Order.

I would like to thank you in advance for your generous contributions.

Labor Omnia Vincit.

Warm regards,
